    Combination (hybrid) resume

A format that opens with a skills summary then follows with reverse-chronological experience — ideal for career changers.

A combination resume, sometimes called a hybrid, pairs a prominent skills or qualifications summary at the top with a traditional reverse-chronological experience section below. It gives you the best of both formats: a recruiter can see your transferable strengths in the first six seconds, then verify them against your actual work history.

It works particularly well for career changers, people returning from a long gap, and candidates whose most relevant experience isn't their most recent role. The skills summary foregrounds what's pertinent; the chronological section maintains credibility and parse reliability.

Keep the skills summary tight — 3-5 categories with one or two quantified achievements each, not a wall of bullet points. The chronological section then follows standard conventions: role, company, dates, 3-5 impact bullets.
